CPAP SLEEP side-sleeping pillow

The CPAP SLEEP side-sleeping pillow is a contoured pillow designed for people who use CPAP therapy while sleeping. Its shape takes into account the presence of the mask and the tube, helping to minimise contact between the mask and the surface of the pillow and making it easier to adopt a more comfortable resting position. The side cut-outs create space for the CPAP mask when sleeping on your side, which may reduce the risk of it slipping and minimise pressure on the face. This design helps to keep the mask in a more stable position and promotes a freer flow of air while using the CPAP device. The flat, wide head support area allows for a comfortable supine position, while the contoured neck edge helps maintain a more neutral alignment of the cervical spine. The side sections of the pillow make it easier to turn onto your side without pressing the mask too hard against the surface.

The pillow is made from memory foam. The material reacts to pressure and body temperature, gradually moulding to its shape and helping to distribute pressure more evenly. An extra gel layer on the surface of the pillow enhances thermal comfort, providing a more pleasant cooling sensation on contact with the skin. The CPAP SLEEP side-sleeping pillow can be used with various types of CPAP masks, including nasal, oral-nasal and full-face masks, provided that their shape and tube routing allow the user to lie comfortably. The pillow has been designed to complement the daily use of a CPAP device, helping you to find a more comfortable sleeping position while wearing the mask.

Intended use

This product is designed to support the head and neck while sleeping or resting in a lying position for people using the CPAP therapy, in order to promote a more comfortable body position, reduce the pressure of the mask on the face and minimise the risk of the mask slipping during sleep, particularly when lying on one’s side.

Therapeutic indications

This product is intended for use as an aid for people who:

• use the CPAP therapy while sleeping at home;
• sleep on their side or change position while sleeping with a CPAP mask on;
• experience discomfort caused by the CPAP mask pressing against a standard pillow;
• experience slipping of the mask, leaks or increased pressure on the face while sleeping caused by a standard pillow;
• need support for their head and neck while sleeping with a CPAP mask on.

Target patient group

Adults and young people using the CPAP or other non-invasive positive airway pressure therapy during sleep who require a more comfortable position for their head and neck and wish to reduce the pressure of the mask on their face. In the case of children, dependent people, people with sensory impairments, reduced mobility or difficulty changing their body position independently, the product should only be used under the supervision of a caregiver or after consulting medical staff.

Intended users

This product is intended for use by the general public.

Contraindications

Do not use this product for patients who:

• require permanent or temporary immobilisation of the cervical spine;
• have recently suffered from injuries to the cervical spine, unless otherwise advised by the doctor;
• have medical conditions requiring the use of a neck brace or other specialist immobilisation devices;
• experience exacerbated pain, numbness, shortness of breath or other worrying symptoms due to the use of a contoured pillow;
• are unable to position the mask or CPAP tube safely and securely due to the shape of the pillow.

Special warnings and precautions for use

• This product is not a substitute for a CPAP machine, a CPAP mask or a doctor’s recommendations regarding the treatment of sleep-related breathing disorders, and is not classified as a medical device.
• Before use, ensure that the CPAP mask is correctly fitted and forms a seal when you are lying on the pillow.
• If you experience increased air leakage, mask slippage, a feeling of breathlessness, reduced breathing comfort or waking up due to the CPAP therapy while using the pillow, stop using the product and check the mask fit and the positioning of the tube.
• If difficulties persist, please consult your doctor, healthcare professional or CPAP equipment supplier.
• Do not use the product if it is damaged, misshapen, torn or has lost its supportive properties.
• Do not attempt to repair, alter or modify the product yourself.
• Do not use the product for any purpose other than its intended use.
• Do not use the product in a way that restricts breathing or causes the CPAP tube to be positioned incorrectly.
• Keep the product clean.
• This product is intended for personal use.

How to use the product

1. Remove the product from its packaging.
2. Before using the pillow for the first time, air it out to reduce any factory odours resulting from the manufacturing and transport processes.
3. Place the pillow on a flat surface on the bed.
4. Place your head on the central support area and rest your neck against the contoured edge of the pillow.
5. When in the side position, place the face and mask so that the side cut-out in the pillow creates space for the mask and prevents it from being pressed against the surface.
6. Position the CPAP tube so that it does not become tight or pull on the mask when you change position.
7. Once you have settled into a sleeping position, check if the mask remains secure and that the airflow is not obstructed.
8. If the product causes discomfort or makes it harder to tolerate the CPAP therapy, stop using it.

Cleaning and maintenance

• Do not wash, soak or dry clean the memory foam core.
• If the outer cover is removable, it can be washed in accordance with the manufacturer’s designations on the care label.
• Do not use bleach or harsh cleaning products.
• If necessary, clean the cushion core in specific spots with a slightly damp cloth and a mild detergent, then leave it to dry completely.
• Do not dry the core mechanically, and do not expose it to intense heat sources or direct sunlight.

Storage and transport

• Store in a dry, clean and well-ventilated place.
• Protect from direct sunlight, excessive humidity and sources of heat.
• Do not store the product in a state where it has been crushed or deformed for a prolonged period.
• Transport it in such a way as to protect against dirt, moisture
  and mechanical damage.

Disposal

The used product must be disposed of in accordance with local environmental and waste management regulations.

Reporting incidents

Any serious incident involving the product must be reported to the manufacturer and to the competent authority of the Member State in which the user or patient resides.

Important notice

The product must be used in accordance with these Instructions for use. The manufacturer is liable for the safety and performance of the product only if it is used in accordance with its intended use and is properly stored and maintained.
